    Assistant Controller – Road Maintenance and General Contracting

    Typical duties:

    • Divisional budgeting and forecasting, including cash flows

    Technical Support Person / Service Desk Technician

    This is a full-time position suitable for applicants with a background in configuring and troubleshooting devices including Windows-based computers, Apple and Android-based mobile devices, multifunction copiers, etc., and their accompanying software.

    You will work during typical business hours from Emil Anderson’s Kelowna office at 907 Ethel Street, and report remotely to the IT Manager.

    • assisting users with typical technology-related questions and requests, including
      • receiving and documenting such requests in our Freshdesk ticketing system
      • prioritizing those tickets based on their business impact and feasibility

    This position will emphasize continual improvement on an individual and department-wide scale, with time routinely allocated towards training and documentation review, and developing improvements to workflows and automation using emerging cloud services technologies.

    Required Qualifications

    OBJECTIVES:

    As the Director of Development, you will oversee the land development team responsible for all aspects of Emil Anderson development projects, as well as regular progress and financial reporting to Emil Anderson executive team and partners when applicable. The land development team is responsible for planning/design, strategic recommendation to ownership, coordination of municipal approval processes, coordination of engineering drawings, management and monitoring of the construction program, as well providing support for builders and support internal sales and marketing teams.

    Consideration will be given to a candidate suited to a Development Manager position with a skillset suited to a transition into a Director role in the future.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Liaise with municipal officials and direct staff interaction with municipal departments and consultants during the approval process.
    • Oversee Development Coordinators & Managers’ work with consulting engineers as required for subdivision design and approval, and direct legal counsel to process subdivision documentation.
    • Prepare Disclosure Statements as required.
    • Review and engage when required on cost control and variance analysis and report monthly to EAP executive committee.
    • Work with Director of Sales to recommend pricing to achieve the maximum long-term economic results and recommend adjustments in response to market conditions.
    • Update annual forecasts of expected sales and update quarterly or as dictated by EAP financial obligations with analysis of actual sales versus forecast and emerging trends.
    • Ensure administrative systems are in place and being followed, work processes, plan adjustments or changes that generate savings and improvements are implemented.
    • Supervise and mentor direct reports, including managing workflow, training new hires, creating and managing team schedules, reporting to HR, evaluating performance, providing feedback, identifying and applying career advancement opportunities, and helping to resolve employee issues and disputes.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • 10+ years of relevant land development experience.
    • Degree or diploma from a post-secondary institution in a related discipline considered an asset; preferably in business, planning or engineering.
    • Understanding of the planning and development approval process.
    • Knowledge of engineering and urban planning principles. 
    • Experience working with consultants, contractors, administrators, and home builders
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to land development, including understanding of municipal levies, recoveries, and cost sharing practices.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral is essential.
    • Excellent computer and written skills; ability to prepare concise, accurate, and clear written materials. 
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media. 
    • Highly organized, strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment. 
    • Critical thinker who is resourceful in finding creative solutions.
